AAARRRGGG...Crack Windshield
We were driving on the freeway this morning when out of nowhere a small rock hit my windshield, crack is at least 5 inches long, will definitely need to be replaced.
What is the best way to replace the winshield. Can i go to a local glass shop or order replacement thru the dealer.
Any suggestions is greatly appreciated

i'm having mine replaced with an aftermarket windshield (PPG) because my insurance company will only cover up to $700, including installation. windshield from my dealer on my W220 is $790.
the glass shop is assuring me the new windshield will be identical to the factory one, minus the MB sticker. my dealer uses this shop for all their replacements so i feel fairly confident there won't be any problems. i could have a factory replacement, but that would be an extra $400 on top of my deductible.
see how much a factory windshield is and how much your insurance company will cover and go from there....good luck.

I had mine replaced last November for just under $500. It was an MB part but was not installed by the dealer. One note of caution, there is a light sensor that needs to be replaced and it needs to be coded by dealer or your instrument lights will think it is dark all the time.

I had it done at the Meredes dealership due to installation experience and the fact the the windshield wipers could represent a potential installation risk if not knowledgeable or aware of the risk. The dealership also required the vehicle to "cure" for 5 or more hours to ensure the replaced windshield is set in place. I would not want a windshield installed by the local glass replacement shop especially when the windshield is so critical for roof alignment for the SLK......The price was less than $750 at Mercedes approx. 6 months ago. Also, ask yourself if you were going to purchase an AMG, would you like non-Mercedes parts on this vehicle?
