Red face EVO mag review SLK55

A friend of mine faxed me a copy of the new issue of EVO magazine in the UK (fantastic magazine!).

Here is a two page review with a title very similar to one of my recent posts...... and its not all good news!

https://mbworld.org/forums/slk55-r171/85322-actual-road-test-slk55-its-not-all-good-news.html

Enjoy!

I'll take it! Yeah.... so what if you can't drive the car 10/10th's? It's not a track car, it's not meant to be driven 10/10th's like a 911 or Lotus Elise. I pretty much knew that before this review and before placing my order. I'd be happy to drive it 8/10th's on favorable conditions on the way to the office. Although this review doesn't give it the full thumbs up, it certainly gave it the seal of approval on all criteria that applies to how I plan to use my SLK55.

Thanks for posting the article!

SLK 32 AMG
When will these journalists get into the real world. The 55, just as the 32 before it, is not a racing car, it is a luxury sports car. Why criticise a car for being exactly what it was designed to be. Automotive design is all about compromises, no car can be all things to all men. If the AMG doesn't suit your preferences buy something else, there are plenty of people out there who want exactly what the SLK AMG offers, me being one of them.

I agree...

the SLK AMGs are everyday supercars that are easy to drive in any condition. Just sold my SLK32 because I thought it lacked that visceral thrill that we often read about from self-proclaimed auto magazine writers--who probably drive less exciting cars than those that they bash. So, I bought a 1997 993 Turbo. Okay, no flames. Fun car but not as easy to drive in the city as my now gone, beloved SLK32. While the SLK is not a track car it can be driven comfortably 95% of the time. Most excellent track cars are not excellent road (SF city roads, that is) cars. Just my $ .02.

Thats all very well and good but i think the SLK55 could be a good track car if you could turn off the ESP's big brother behavius which is designed to stop you from getting in trouble under normal driving conditions.

I am actually considering a pre-owned 911 4S as a winter car with some performance punch since it has AWD. Any thoughts?

Yes, I'd say go for it. I've got a 911 C4, and it has grip and performance which is usable in almost all weather conditions, without the need for nannying electronics. On the rare occasions it snows, I drive the Land Rover to work though.
