Cross country road trip to pick up my SLK55!

Hello all. This is my first post here and just let me say that this looks like a great community.

I took a vacation to Sarasota, FL last week. The weather was great for most of the week, but one day it dropped down into the 50's, so I engaged in my favorite hobby: car shopping! First of all, the selection at the dealership was amazing! They had three CL65's, an SL65, two Maybach 62's, a CLS500 (!) and literally two of every 55 and 600 model. I wasn't too sure what I wanted, all I knew was that I wanted something comfortable and fast. I took out an SL600, an E55, a CLK55, and an SLK55. They were all great cars, but I fell in love with the SLK55 immediately. Even though it was the least powerful of the bunch, I do not focus on raw acceleration alone. It was an attractive, and surprisingly comfortable ride with plenty of torque, and most importantly a roof that disappears in 22 seconds . As soon as I got back to the dealership I bought it. There were several other people there looking at the same car and unfortunately I bought the car out from under them. Just while I was signing the paperwork two salespeople came up to the sales manager saying that they had a customer who was ready to buy the SLK55. The only problem is, I am going to trade in my E320 CDI and I did not have that car with me in Florida- it was 1000 miles away at home. So unfortunately I am going to have to drive back down to Florida from sunny Cincinnati this Sunday to pick up my beautiful Mars Red SLK55 with Lighting, Premium, and Entertainment (no navi) packages. I am going to drive down with my girlfriend under the pretense of just taking a short vacation to unwind before going back to work after the holidays. I am going to surprise her and pick up the SLK then enjoy the beach and top down weather for a few days, then hit Disney World for a day on the way home. I am extremely excited to join MBworld. This is my 9th Mercedes-Benz, but I have not been this excited about a car for a very long time!

I just turned in my S2000 after 3 years and 50,000 miles and I am excited to have something resembling a sports car again. The S2000 was an absolutely stunning piece of machinery. If you are looking for a pure sports car, and do not want to wait for a Lotus Elise, I highly suggest an '03 or older S2000. The SLK will have some big shoes to fill, but I think I will enjoy it.

I will be sure to take plenty of pictures along the way and give a full account of my experiences with both the E320 and more importantly the SLK. I have a pretty nice digital camera and we will have some interesting backdrops, so hopefully I can share some great pictures.

Well that's a factor of weather and what car you take It took me probably 16 hours in the rain in my LX470, but I think I can shave some time off of that in the slk
