Back in the mid-1950s the three letters SLR acquired a hallowed status, as a Mercedes-Benz racing car of that name set new standards in the world of high-class Gran Turismo vehicles. Visually breathtaking and, thanks to innovative technology, superior to its rivals in terms of performance and handling, it spawned a legend.

Never get tired of reading about or seeing pics of the SLR -- thanks. 
I have noticed myself going to automania more often too - not a bad site at all.
There does exist a 12 to 14 page article out there - came out about a year and a half to two years ago now - which is entitled The Technology of the SLR or something like that. It is the article to read if one wants to be impressed by what went into the construction of the car and its various systems....
