New SLR Details
Here is some new info regarding the long awaited SLR:
Public introduction at the IAA 03 without significant design differences to the original concept cars.
Relatively tame V8 engine; supercharged to 560-580 hp with 590 lb.ft. torque and a redline at 7000 rpm. 0-60 in about 3.8 sec. and a top speed of 200mph (320 km/h). Due to safety features the car will be heavier than initally planned, at about 1600 kg (3527 lbs).
The brakes will be similar to the SL55 F1 safety car (SBC with ceramic discs). There is an automatically extending rear wing that supposibly will act as an air brake at high speeds.
Beginning in early 2004, the cars will be sold at around 360.000 Euro via the Maybach distribution network.

I drive a SL55
Clearly, none of these cars are really tame, but the new SL65 V12 AMG will have more horse power (600+) and significantly more torque (740 lb.ft) than the SLR.
The SLR will be more exclusive, much more agile and weighing probably a 1000 lbs. less, but also at least costing $150,000 more.
Since the SL65 wil most likely not be sold in the US, I am fairly certain that all delivered cars will have the governor set to something like 190-200mph (based on tire limitations).
Either way, with the 155mph governor removed none of these cars (SL55, SL65 or SLR) will be able to outrun each other, certainly not on a real highway

Tame? Almost 600 horsepower, a 7 grand redline, 0-60 in less than 4 seconds, and a 200 mph top speed (undoubtedly governed, as the SL55 can hit 208 unlimited), and this is a tame engine? Mind if I ask what you drive?
