maybe you should drive the car before expressing such a frivolous opinion.

What does driving a car have to do with saying it will depreciate and languish in dealers lots?

I really beg to differ with on this one. The SLS is not going to be "overpriced" like the SL65 BS was. Now granted, $190k+ for a car is a lot of money, but not completely out of the realm. Also remember that most dealers are not even getting one and if they do, most are only getting 2 this year. For example, our 2 are already sold and we are told that we may only get 2 next year as well. If dealers who do recieve these cars keep them at MSRP and not over, then they will sell

They will sell a few first and the rest will sit in the showrooms as dust queens and the SLS will be no exception. Look the the SL65 BS for example. My dealer was asking 100k below MSRP and was probably going lower for any buyer. It sat in the showroom for over 2 years. I am willing to put my money where my mouth is on this. Are you?

Alex

I have to disagree. I don't know which market you refer to but you cannot find a C63 for 50% of MSRP. MSRP including PP and excluding guzzler is $69K in the us. Good luck finding an 09 for 35K. The cheapest one I have heard fall in the high 40s and that is about a 30% hit.
even if you refer to trade in value, you can get more than 35K.
Sorry for being off topic. It sucks that you got bumped. If you truly want the car, I would definitely bypass hte dealer and talk directly to MBUSA. Someone of your caliber i.e. able to spend 300K will be heard and your case will be investigated.

I hardly doubt the SLS will flop around on the market like the SL BS and the SLR did. For one it is priced much better and performs better than either. Looks aside arguably, its a much better car than either the SL BS or the SLR.

Of course any dealer trying to put a 100K "market adjustment" on top of MSRP isn't going to move them, but I can't see this car sitting around dealer showrooms for days on end at MSRP. They should move pretty quick if Mercedes keeps production down and the roadster version is going to be next summer's must have car IMO.

Why would you exclude gas guzzler tax unless to fudge the numbers in favor of the C63's residuals?

SLS sounds like a great car at a sensible price...really good step to tune up the big 6.2 as it was clearly detuned at 500bhp...I wonder how many parts the engine shares with the improved 6.2 with the P31? pkg equipped 2010/11 C63s...sound like they really beefed up the internals...

price wise the stealers here will try and gouge...the car is decent value at MSRP but a select few who like to impress the neighbors will pay above, those with a brain will wait 6months or a year and pay a grand or two under msrp but it seems a sure thing the SLS won't be the flop that the SLR and SL65 were...

Nothings ever a sure thing. The only sure thing you have is waking up in the morning and going to work to pay the car off.

The SLS release probably hurt SL65 BS sales. Who in their right mind would pay way more for less performance..? That BS was the dumbest idea MB has had in a while...

Well the SL65 BS is out of production, has been for a while. The SL65 was not going to be a hit from the start, too expensive.

The SL65 BS was a great idea, but poorly executed. It should have been with the V8, not the V12, but that would have been stepping on the SLS's toes.

really silly to talk of sl65 black and the sls as comparable(?!) cars. 65 black was impractical from the beginning on so many levels, whereas the sls is both extremely well thought-out and exquisitely executed. best of all, it is practical within its design parameters. in fact, most of the magazine reviews i've read really don't adequately touch on its very real virtues, especially compared to its competition: things such as residual value, build quality, power with usability, ride quality, quietness, etc.. as to talk of these cars "languishing" on dealers' lots, you may not know that this years production run is spoken for.

You're just pulling this out your a$$...basically nobody has one so how are residuals a very real virtue... Give it 3 yrs and then you can talk...

Exactly on point. I noted earlier...time will tell on the SLS. No one can predict what will happen on price drops, not worth debating. Let's revisit about 1-2 years and see how it goes.

One thing for sure...they will drop in value as all cars do. How fast?
