Thumbs up MKB tuning for SLS AMG, 638HP (ECU only)

I have been browsing the internet for diffrent tuning companies for the SLS. SO far, the best ECU tune that I have found was from a German company called MKB. they call the tune "P640":

http://www.mkb-tuning.de/content/en/...ews.php#news_1

The only problem with this tune is that it is CARB legal and they dont by-pass the oxygen sensor for future cat deleate or race headers system. But really, 638HP seems decent. What do you guys think? IS there a better ECU tune only than this?

Definitely an excellent choice. Better than RennTech

Think you might find they are doing a bit more than they state.

Hold on, the money tuners are asking for is ridiculous, especially for a
10% increase. I guarantee after a couple of days you won't notice the difference, not like the old days where a chip change on a Ford Cosworth
would give you a 30% increase for around 500 dollars £350. How much is
the MKB tune, can it be done on the SL63.

One tuner in Europe wants over 25,000 EU for those type of mods.

The SLS is already a very tuned engine, if you look at the spec's of the GT3 version they only quote 600 HP.

It is a lot harder to make power these days with NA engines, but a 60 HP gain is a big difference.

I wish it was as easy as just an ECU reprogram, we spend a lot of time and money on R & D to get that power.

That is an incorrect source since it is not from the website itself. I already contacted MKB personally and they said that the engine will gain upto 638 HP only and only from tuning.

which tuner? how much horsepower? and what equipments?

because MKB are offering 67 HP tuning only for less than 3500 euros. Renntech is 65 HP for more than $18000?

come on man. Look at the difference.

here is the website , can you beat this? :

You probably don't want to depend on the company that is selling the product for this type of information since they would have a vested interested in answering your question. I would look for results from independent sources, customers, dynos, etc.... RENNtech claims are conservative and are repeatable. It is not only about making power, but making reliable power that lasts a long time.

I don't know whether MKB can squeeze almost 70 hp with a tune-only mod on a naturally aspirated car or not. However, I can tell you that their tune-only mod on a twin turbo engine produces 65 to 70 hp.... now normally gains are less on a naturally aspirated engine, so you make the judgement.

LOL!

Owning an SL63: $100,000
Owning an SLS AMG: $200,000
Calling seniority as an argument in a discussion: FAIL!

beater with a heater
Recent experience with SLS, a good friend of mine that I just did an audio system upgrade in his SLS, sent his ECU to AMG and they tuned it for free for him. Sure he has quite a few AMG's, but the AMG Performance Center in Ohio even shipped it at a no cost to him, even installed it for free. Though nothing is free in life, and I am sure there was some room in the sale of the vehicle to cover shipping and labor, but the tune was done for free. They did his SL63 also for free.

I was looking at the aftermarket tuners and came to the conclusion, that AMG is going to start closing the ranks. from Carbon Fiber interior/exterior upgrades, spoiler, defuser, mirrors, trim...etc to the locking diff on the C63's....

I know AMG has to get some stuff together, but in the next few years, I am sure some of the tuners will be going bye-bye

check out the amg website...performance studio
