Exclamation K&N Fitlers for the SLS AMG!!!

I just recently installed K&N Filters on my SLS AMG and replaced them over my previous BMC filters.

I went and tested out first the BMC filters and the K&N Filters on Android's Software "Torque". The maximum mass air flowrate for the BMC came out to be 425 g/s and for the K&N I got 440 g/s. This means that the K&N filters slightly have a better air flow rate.

Now I know when you go to K&N's website, you will not find air filters available for the SLS.

Just let's find out how I got them

Here are some pics

This is the BMC. Notice that I have removed the oil from the filter. I do that to protect the MAF Sensors from the oil.

And here now I have fitted the K&N Filter.

Before using them I decided to remove the oil from them

Nice and Clean Now

Just to give an idea of how much oil there was

In conclusion I find that the K&N filters allow a better air flowrate than the BMC air filters. In addition the K&N filters are cheaper as well.

For BMC filters the total price come out to be $172.92 through BMC's website. The K&N filters I got them for $82! A little bit more than half.

Notice that on the website you won't find K&N filters that fit for the SLS AMG

They flow better because they do not filter out as much debris. I surely wouldn't be running those in your environment, especially after seeing that engine bay. But not my car. Im sure you car is a beast though

I wouldn't be driving my SLS on a dusty day. So I shouldn't have a problem. I think they filter out as much debris as the stock panel filters.

Not that it actually matters, but they do allow more dirt to get past then OEM ones. I have had several engine's apart and you can almost always tell which ones were running a free flowing intake filter setup such as K&N's, and a OEM filter setup.

Good you won't be driving it on a dusty day

K&N filters particles better than the crappy stock paper elements. The Engines you have propebley seen didn't have K&N's.

SLS,
You never told us, how and where did you find a set of filters for your SLS

It does not make good sense to remove the oil from the air filters . The oil is there to help remove small dust/dirt particles. Just lay the pre oiled filters out in the sun for a short while ( half hour or so ) and the excess oil with dry off. Again it does not make good sense to use the filters without oil. You are asking for engine damage due to insufficient air filtering. K & N would not pre oil the filters if it was not effective/safe.

I bought a new set and didn't reomove the oil from the this time.

For those who want to know which K&N filter fits the SLS, it can be found here
Amazon.com: K&N 33-2749 High Performance Replacement Air Filter: Automotive Amazon.com: K&N 33-2749 High Performance Replacement Air Filter: Automotive

However, for the filter to fit exactly, you will need to trim some of the edges. This can be done using a razor blade for example. The first ones I bought got damaged becuase I forced to close the Airboxes on them while using them.

The new ones I trimmed the edges and now there are no problems.
