Buying soon... Anything I should look out for?
As the title says. Are there any common problems with the car that I should look out for?
Also, there seems to be a difference in transmissions, right? I see some models with a T shaped shift knob and some with a loop. Are these different transmission options? Or just something they changed over the years?

In all seriousness there have not been any major issues or complaints with any model of the SLS. The M159 motor does not share any of the same headbolt issues ad the M156 motors had. If you buy one make sure you take it to a dealer and get the trans program upgraded, it is free to do so and greatly improved the shift quality and speed of shifts, basically brings it up to SLS GT levels of trans performance.
