Trunk Outlet Converted to a Conventional Charging Outlet and Power Source

Three items are needed.

Cigarette Lighter Receptacle with spade connectors from any auto parts store. Eagle nylon bushings MP13716 and MP10915 available at your local ACE hardware store.

Of course save the existing components!

Procedure (refer to the images):

1. Enlarge the hole in MP13716 with a file so MP10915 will fit inside

2. Cut a slot in MP13716

3. Modify MP10915 as shown on the images. A sheet metal shear works best

4. With a sheet metal shear cut approximately 1/8 to 3/16 in. from the length of the outer ground cylinder

5. Cut off approximately half of the outer cylinder spade connector

6. Assemble as indicated

Or just use the parts the car came with and use the charger as designed. If you don't have them, get your dealer to order them - not terribly expensive.

I'm confused why anyone would want to do this? Interesting work-around but just why?

The magnetic connector is cool and unique. I don't believe any other Mercs have it.
