GET THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE UPDATE!!!
Just got my car back from service, had them do the transmission software update as well. WOW, what a difference it makes! Gets into gear from park way faster and gear to gear shift times are improved as well. The service advisor was really cool. He said don't bring in the post from MBUSA that was posted on a thread because posts from forums make it seem like you're trying to get a fix for an issue that your car doesn't necessarily have. He said just come in, explain the issue with the shift delay, they'll scan the computer to see if there's an available update, and if there is they'll perform the update. Cost me 1 hour of labor, well worth it.

Thanks
Yep, done on day one of ownership. It makes a big difference. Now if only we can figure out how to get the OEM 2013-2014 SLS AMG GT horsepower bumper of 20hp?

I thought there was a physical change to the motor that enabled that extra 20hp? Or was that only the black series?

2013-14 was a ECU tune and redlined at 7200 rpm, Black Series has shorter intake runners, revised valve timing, and optimized ignition timing that increases peak cylinder pressure, wider main bearings, stronger connecting-rod bolts, other additional forged hardware, higher-pressure oiling system, different exhaust and redlines at 8000rpm .

I paid for a ECU/TCU tune from Weistec. Black Series level shifts and I imagine I picked up the 20 HP as well as sharper throttle response. So worth it.

Thanks! I noticed your location is in SF, I'm located there too. Did you get this done at Mercedes-Benz of San Francisco? I just picked up a 2011 SLS, so I'll bring mine in for this soon

Congrats on your purchase. No, I don't take it to SF dealership. They don't have a good service department along with Oakland which is the same ownership. I have a friend that works for MB and said Marin and Belmont have the best service departments in the bay area. So I took mine to Marin. If you go there, ask for Thomas Armitage. He's the service advisor that handled my car and he's very knowledgeable about the SLS.

Huge improvement. Back in 2012/2013 when the GT was released they had this new improved software for that car and left all of us 2011/2012 owners very disgruntled. We started a movement over at the AMG Private Lounge and had our revolt sent directly to the engineers of AMG on the private lounger as they frequent there quite often. Our little movement made them update and release the new software for the transmission that made a world of difference on shifts in manual mode. Massive improvements, do it when you can, you will be blown away in manual mode
