If these cars were passing emissions and crash req. than they would be available in USA. Since Canada has diffrent laws you can buy them overthere.
I think this is not a good idea to buy it and later find out that this (car) will be almost impossible to register.

There IS a company here in So Cal that Can do the DOT/EPA conversion..they have the approval in hand and yes even carb cert

Last Friday, I was lucky to lay my hands on a fully optioned Smart for 2 "Passion" coupe in Bar Grey Metallic/Silver Tridion with black leather interior at our local MB dealership. 
Will be taking delivery on Monday afternoon.
