I realize this is a stretch. How about some way of either "locking" the thread or allowing the author of a CLASSIFIED thread to lock his own thread in the classified after his/her product is sold.This way it can fade away and not be brought back to life after xxx amount of months.

Good idea, but we can't moderate everysingle thread in classifieds. I'll volunteer to be the moderator to take the messages though.

I'll setup a sticky saying for all folks to PM me once their product is sold and a link to their thread so I can close it and rename it. Thanks for the idea!

Or, can the edit tag be left in the classified section so that the user can delete the original post and in turn cleaning up all the questions within the thread?

I don't know if that's possible in a forum specific environment. I'll look up on it, but even if it's possible I'm not sure if the other mods will agree it's a good idea. Reasons for tricking the buyer and what not.. I'll bring it up with the others though.

I didn't think of the obvious. It will erase all tracks. Bad idea!

Can you scroll through some of the one's that say "SOLD" and lock them ?
