Photo Shop Section to post threads in...

Here is what I believe is a good suggestion for this forum. Ever wonder how your car would look with a certain mod? You wondering could be eliminated if there is a section on this forum where you could post a pic of your car and a short description of what you want done to it. Then, someone in the Moderator level that is well experienced in photoshop, can do the chop and build of what the description says. If no one at the Moderator level is experienced enough, then maybe some member on the forum who has spare time can donate his or her time to do the best they can to perform the photoshop. It doesnt have to be the same member all the time. Once and awhile members can check the section and do the photoshop if they think they are up to the challenge. This can save both time and especially money, something that some of us dont have enough of to spend left and right. I got this idea from a forum that my buddy is a member of, its a toyota supra forum. There is a little mentioning of this same idea in the W124 section in a thread titled "How do you like these mods?" This is just an my idea that I think is great...

I think it's a great idea! It doesn't have to be a moderator to do the Photoshopping either. Anyone with some time and PS software can do it.

Which brings me to my next point...Why did you say someone at a Mod level try to do it first, and then someone else can have a go at it?

What I meant was so that the photo shop challenge that were to be requested would definitely be done...a sort of job for someone to do. If that idea wasnt like by the moderators then they could still follow through with it but with the second part of my idea....a section where someone could post a request and someone with time on their hands could do their best at it.....

I think the Photoshop subforum with a Multimedia main forum would be awesome. A photo/video subforum would be a good addition as well. People like eye candy from what I can see on other forums.

It seems that are are numerous photoshop pics posted in the respective forums by members. Some of which enlist help of others. If you got a specific request post it in the applicable forum and see if someone will help in case you don't have the SW or skills to do it yourself.

Multimeadia is also linked by members in the applicable forums. Hosting actual videos/multimedia takes too much storage space and would boog down the forum.

I understand the hosting demands of video and do not expect MBworld to host such files. What I meant was that the video should be hosted elsewhere then linked to a Multimedia subforum.

The current system of posting pics in their respective forums does work now but if you've ever been on E46Fanatics you'll know that the "e46fanatics showroom" is one of the popular forums. I think a general picture forum like that would work wonders for people who do not frequent different sections of Mbworld.

That's a great way to put it as well. Maybe have a general media type forum, then have some sub-forums for like photoshopping, pictures/gallery, videos, etc.

I find that asking for photo help in the applicable forum is a bad idea. Not many people have PS, or any other photo editing software, and so we'll get very little help. If we have this forum, we'll almost sure to get the help we need.

I agree. As an example, I do have access to Photoshop but I do not frequent all forums because I simply either have no interest or time to. I'm sure other members have stuck to their respective forums of interest as well.

I know I, and the rest of the PS savvy people, would frequent the Multimedia forum if there were one thus being able to lend a hand when needed. Trying to find a PS savvy person in EVERY forum is a little difficult. Another thing that has crossed my mind is if I want to post pics not car related I would have to post in OT. Not exactly where it belongs either but that would be the only relevant forum to post such things.

Where else would you you post these on a car forum. Seems that Off Topic is the correct place for that.

Can we take it therefore that you are volunteering to use your SW and skills to help/modify pics for members? If so, let us know and you can post a non-profit sticky in all the forums thereby allowing the membership to call on you for assisstance.

Yes and no to the first statement. Yes, that it is off-topic and could fit in OT but no in that it's also off-topic from OT. Creating a MM forum would make it 100% on-topic and relevant.

I don't mind volunteering but I don't know if I would be 100% comfortable being the sole person doing that. Being that Photoshop is a very versatile program, I do have my strengths in PS but I also have weak areas based on what I primarily use it for. With a general MM forum, other members would be able to leverage their strengths to compensate for weak areas thus offering a better set of skills. For example, I focus primarily on photography post processing techniques while the graphic/artistic design stuff is all secondary to me and could be vice versa for someone else. It could also be a great way for myself and others to learn new techniques as well.

I can only think of positive things that could result from it. Aside from potential extra load on the server(s) and another forum to moderate what other negative effects would result from this?

Having a section like that in this forum would be a GREAT idea!

To address some of the issues I see:

Anyone should be able to accomodate a photoshop request without restrcitions. Mandating a first crack at it by the mods will basically increase their workload on the forum. IF after an initial chop anyone thinks they can do better than an outcome, then that person is more than welcome to take a shot at it as well.

Second, having this section of the forum will definitely help get all the pictures and images into a "useable" section of the forum, instead of having everything scattered around. The layout and tools of this forum is one of the best compared to the other forums I frequent, but it seems to be lacking in this department.

Further, if the mods are concerned about space limits and bandwith (pictures can get HUGE), they can require that all pictures be uploaded to a 3rd party host, and linked to this forum.

I think the best layout would be if there were two sections, one for automotive related pictures, and another for pretty much everything else. That way the professional photographers can let loose with their artistic skills, while the automotive pictures and photoshop work can reside in the 2nd section.

Let's make this a GO!

so what the moderators are saying that there will be no Photoshop section for people to post requests? We poor, PS-less folks will go on life without this vital section? OOookay.....

It's a little more than that

Could the PS guys come as a group and talk to me so I can justify this to Simon? It would be a waste to create the forum and have no traffic

I think we have more than enough support from members for this new section of the forum. Now it's really in the hands of the higher-ups on whether a new forum should be created. *crosses fingers*

I'm working on it, let's see how it goes. We need to make sure that the forum will be 100% benefitial to the entire board as well as no bad ramifications in the future.

Well....we might need to make some sort of announcement to the forum to let them know of the big forum.

I'm pretty sure this idea would be very appreciated by the modaholics, as I'm sure they'd like to see the mod on the car, before they buy the thing.
