Minumum number of posts for Classified section

How about implementing a policy that you cannot start a FOR SALE thread unless you have a minimum number of posts? I have no idea what that number should be. Say 50 or 75? This will keep spammers from being able to spam the classified section and it will most likely cut down on the amount of scams since most scammers are new members.

Yes? No? Maybe?

Problem with that idea is that a spammer could care less where they post. They won't necessarily post in the Classifieds, but they will spam ANY forum they can. So if we limit posting in the Classifieds to users with certain amount of posts, the spammer will just post it in another forum.

But it would certainly cut down on the amount of scammers, no? I, for one, would put up with the same amount of forum spam for the ability to dissuade scammers.

I'm not sure it would. It's like saying my car has 4 doors- if I lock the driver door but keep the other 3 unlocked, it will keep thieves from breaking in. Would it? I guess it will keep an idiot thief from getting in

A lot of boards do have minimum posts anywhere from 10-100. I don't think it makes a difference except for making the people who TRULY have something to sell go out and make a bunch of useless posts to be able to post in the classifieds section.

Would you feel comfortable buying something from a newbie with only 1 post?

Case by case scenario. Some are not newbies and have Ebay ratings that are very respectible.
