AC and Heat not working

2006 e350 AND 2002 ML320
AC and Heat not working
I have a 2002 Mercedes ML 320 --Started car one morning. Smelled burning rubber. AC was working-blowing cold. parked and 4 hours later started car, at that point the AC stopped blowing cold. Changed the little key lever gear located on left side of radio- had to remove speedo. Fan blows - cannot adjust temperature. Can't control temperature. Replaced a/c – heat- fan control module on dash - still blows air-with no temp control-no AC – no heat and now the lights on the knobs don't light....plugged in a control head from a 2005 ML- looks identical...HELP!
