You try to blame the forum and put ownership or liability there? Ignorant. That is a fact.

op, as a note to your future self, anyone should be asking for full payment upfront and be willing to have both sides protected in the transaction. If anyone ever asks for a partial payment, they’re just looking to scam you for the partial. Good sellers if you are meeting them in person will always be willing to work on a handshake, and bad sellers or scammers want you to pay before you’ve ever seen it. For far away sellers, make sure you get a validated picture similar to what the kidnapper might have to do. Ask them for a very specific picture so you know that they are taking it. I’ve sometimes asked for them to take a picture with an upside down peace sign. When they won’t validate, I won’t buy. Once validated, if it’s going to be a pickup, a nominal deposit is offered, which the good seller will reject and work off just the handshake. Additionally, come to the forums and ask about these people because most of us are here to help.

At best, maybe the forum admins could get an IP (it would be VPN or Dyn). Then the police would say 'there is nothing we can do....' if and when a police report is filed.

Please be aware that there are spammers/scammers that are trying to impersonate legitimate sellers by creating new user accounts that are nearly identical (either slightly misspelled or with an added comma or period in the name). Those posts (or private messages) usually contain email addresses or phone numbers. Never respond to those and report them. They are obvious as the user is listed as a Newbie and usually only has a single post.
