Balance shaft gear success rate
Took my ’07 ml350 to get estimate for the dreaded balance shaft gear repair and was told ……..it has been discovered that the success rate for this repair is relatively low, due to the amount of metal particles distributed throughout the engine from the initial failure of the defective gear, which in turn creates premature wear on other internal engine components and blockage of internal oil passages……. success failure rate of this repair is not widely known ……. serious issues continue to exist due to oil/metal contamination, the damage caused by the failure of the balance shaft gear, may have created irreparable damage to the internal components of the engine. REALLY?? I love this car and do not want it to die.
