I have looked in the GLS-580 book but am unable to find out what this is? Blue Square with P in it. Comes on when starting car and goes away after a few minutes.

That is the PARKTRONIC symbol. It simply means the vehicle has detected an/some available parking space(s), so activate park assist when you are ready.
