Vito 639 engine check light on cold start

Hello everyone,

I have W639 2004 Vito which displays the engine check light when i do a cold start.

The light stays on until i turn off the ignition.

If i run the van for 5 mins, then restart, the light does not come on.

The van runs fine either way.

I am not a trained mechanic but im not scared of getting my hands dirty and i know a little about electrics.

So my questions are

Does anyone have experience / resolution of this fault?

Does anyone know what checks the van is doing for a cold start and what sensors they involve?

Does anyone know where the relay for the glow plugs is on this van (i was thinking to check the glow plugs from there as they seem to be very difficult to access on the engine)?

Any help is much appreciated.
