w639 Gearbox oil change, what is the oil level ?

I'd like to replace the oil in my gearbox. I know almost all the steps except what oil level I need to measure.
Can someone tell me how much I should measure with my homemade dipstick ? At which temperature, motor running or not ?
By "homemade dipstick" I mean a bicycle brake cable housing or a TIG stainless welding rod.
I ask this question after 2 hours searching. I found a lot of answers, Answers that contradict each other. So can someone tell me the right level to match ?

it is not as simple as you think you need to read WIS document AP27.00-D-2702C
total amount of fluid is 7.8 liters for 722.6 trany-------oil spec is 236.14-----go with God!!

I did read this document. Actually a mecanics at my local Mercedes shop told me step by step how to do that.
The only thing is that I do not want to buy a dipstick that I'll use once every 10 years or so, In my mind it is not mandatory if I know the oil height I have to measure.
So does someone know what the height of oil there must be measuring from the bottom of the gearbox case ?
