2002 e55 pricing

Picking up 2002 e55 on thursday.

dealers very aggressive with pricing.

new 2002 e55 without command, vent seat for 66k...nice

I think I will be happier with and AMG than the plain jane e500.

titanium silver and charcoal

no options...slim end of model run pickings. I could have had the command etc, but in black.

did not want the black...just got rid of 740 sport in black.

drdave,

The Mercedes color is Brilliant Silver Metallic. Titanium Silver is BMW's color. Still have BMW on the brain, huh?

Juke-box,

I mostly drive my Ford Explorer Sport Trac during the week and play with the E55. It is very driveable, however, I want to add Xpel paint protection (invisible bra) to the front. I hate those darn rock chips!

2000 E430 Desert Silver
drdave,
Congratulations and have fun with your new toy. The Brilliant Silver Metallic is nice but I still like the BMW Titatium Silver better

E55 KEV,
Let me know if it works - the Xpel paint protection (invisible bra) to the front. I had the same problem on my 'baby' too. Thanks

Traded in a 740i Sport for an E55 huh? That's an interesting trade. So what are your impressions in comparing the two?

Of course the E55 is faster in a straight line because of the gobs of torque and lighter weight, but what about handling?

I have an '02 E55 company car, and though I love the effortless torque and ride comfort, it is definitely not a canyon carver in stock form. After taking through the local canyons in Malibu where I live, I found that I had higher exit speeds off of most turns with my 740i Sport than the E55. At most speeds up to 100mph, I don't find the 55 to be that much quicker either. The E55 will grip the road, but the steering and body roll is so much that it is almost impossible to gauge the limits of the car.

I am wondering if there is any modification I can do to make it handle like an M5... My M5 will definitely get the Schnitzer DFC suspension and I doubt there is any type of aftermarket suspension for the MB like this, but how about just matching the BMW's handling in stock form? That way I can have comfort and handling....

Flame suit on...

By the way, we got our brand new '02 E55 in Brilliant Silver/ Charcoal with Comand system, multi-contour seats (the one with all the different air bladders) and I think the only other option was the ventilated seats which we did not get. Sticker was $73K and some change. It even had a dealer adjustment markup of $10K.

Drove the car off the lot with a final price of $66K.

Pretty good deal, huh?

E55 has much more torque, can break tires loose at higher speeds...or pulling out of corners. greater power at ever speed...no comparison...super car vs. luxo car.

740 has better seats and in some respects better steering wheel.

I found I was hurting myself getting out of 740...very low seating position...assumed it was me getting old. now with e55 not having that same pain. feels like higher seating position.

my old lexus gs 430 has superior dash/nav and hvac controls than both merc and bmw

bottom line...there is no perfect car

dr dave,

in many respects I see your point. But as my friend tonight remarked, the E55 has chairs, while the 7 has seats...

It is because of the higher seating position in the E55 that I can't find a truly comfortable driving position-- especially to take corners at high speeds.

Yes, there is gobs of torque in the 55, and it does indeed have about 67 lb.-ft. more than the 740i. However, I disagree with you that the difference is between supercar and luxocar. I don't know how aggressively you drove the 740iS, but I rip that car through the canyons like you wouldn't believe-- I have even drifted, no more like slid, the rear tail across two lanes with the DSC on! You can ask several of the Southern California M5 guys or some of the Bimmerfest attendees about how crazy that 740 is.

The car is very capable, but few people have the ***** to see what it's really got. With the 3.15 gearing putting the available torque to the ground, up to about 70 or 80 mph it can hold it's own against almost anything including the E55. How do I know this? Because I have run the car against many an M5, and the M5 only really starts to pull at higher speeds above 70. And trust me when I tell you that an M5 with a half competent driver will smoke an E55 at all speeds, but even more so above 80.

The perfect sedan would be an E55 with a Kleemann supercharger, Recaro leather racing seats, a 6 speed or sequential paddle shift transmission, reduced steering boost, and an electronically adjustable suspension with 19" forged racing wheels.

Either that, or a BMW M5 with ACS DFC suspension, Dinan or Kelleners engine tuning, 19" forged racing wheels... For the truly sporting driver, the car is basically perfect. Too bad the dealers are such *******s with the worst service possible.

Lexus, well... all I have to say is that anyone who knows how to drive well and fast should never even consider buying one. Talk about the most dead feeling car on the planet. The electronic gadgetry is purely to compensate for its inherent deficiencies. OK, so it has a niftier NAV system and colder air conditioning. But the car can't handle and even worse, it's still an overpriced, UGLY RICEMOBILE.
