Upgrading the W 210 AMG
I've got a 2001 E 55 AMG and want to start upgrading it. Not sure what to do though.
I know EvoSport provides an underdrive pulley for 10 hp to the wheels, Powerchip has an ECU program. Also heard that Supersprint is coming out with headers for the car.
What else can be done? What about air filters/box modification? I heard that BMC is an excellent air filter to replace the paper one with. Much better than the K & N as those choke out the engine, and better than Green on the power increase. BMC also offers a conical filter air box replacement. Anyone have any opinions on their products? Results? Etc?
Also, can anything be done with the exhaust? Not for cosmetic purposes, of course. And finally, I know the last thing you could do with the car is drop a supercharger on it, though Renntech asks for a pretty penny. Is there another company, perhaps Kleemann, that can do comparable work, but not for such a high price?
Thanks for the input.

What makes the BMC gauze filter better than the K&N gauze filter? Any documentation?
HPS also does a drop on s/c for the 210, lower cost than Kleemann but not sure of the comparative results.

According to a company I spoke with that sold both filters, the BMCs fold the gauze in a way that offers less air resistance than the K&N, but with comparable filtering capabilities. The catch is they need to be cleaned in a shorter lifespan than the K&Ns. You need to clean them every 25,000 Km.
In addition, when EvoSport was dynoing their cars filters, the K & N's were choking the E 55s. Green Filters on the other hand were doing improvements.
For info:
BMC Filters do the filters for the FIA F-1 Grand Prix cars. Italy Made.
Green Filters do the filters for the Peugeot Team in the WRC. Sweden Made.

MBWorld Fanatic!
It all depends how much you are willing to spend...All that pullies and ECU dont give you much...
To really get better preformance you need at least headers with free flowing exhaust and ECU to go with...Thats appox +50 HP...and 0.2less to 62...

What about headers and exhaust? Any companies in mind that you would suggest?
