E55 Service Log

In the first 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever came first) on your E55, how many days did your car spend in the shop for OEM problems (that is, not for scheduled service or upgrades)?

* How long have you owned the car?
* How many major issues (affecting drivability) have you experienced?
* How many minor issues -- excluding routine service -- have you experienced?
* Were all of the repairs made to your satisfaction?
* Were all of the repairs covered by the warranty?
* Were you satisfied with how you were treated by the dealership?
* Were you satisfied with how you were treated by Mercedes?

The same poll was posted on the M5 board; I thought it'd be interesting to compare data.

Re: E55 Service Log

Here are my own responses:

* How long have you owned the car? 6 months / 12,000 miles.
* How many major issues (affecting drivability) have you experienced? 2 (collapsed valve lifter, twice).
* How many minor issues -- excluding routine service -- have you experienced? 2 (auto-adjusting headlight on the fritz, twice).
* Were all of the repairs made to your satisfaction? No -- neither problem should have recurred after the first repair. The headlight issue still has not been resolved.
* Were all of the repairs covered by the warranty? Yes.
* Were you satisfied with how you were treated by the dealership? Yes. They try hard, and didn't complain when I pranged their loaner car. But this is my first new car, and I can't get used to dealing with a service writer instead of a mechanic. I recognize that this is the way things are at dealerships, but I'd rather get to know the guy who actually has his hands in the guts of my car than someone whose job is to sell me more service. As soon as my warranty is up, I'm going back to an independent shop.
* Were you satisfied with how you were treated by Mercedes? Yes.
