W210 Power Issues

I have a 2000 W210 E55 with just under 40K miles.

At about 36K I started losing low and midrange power. Check engine light came on and found MAF Sensor and adaptation out of limits. Fuel Pressure checked OK. Dealer Replaced MAF.

Car performed fine until 37K when it lost midrange again and the check eng light came on again. Car was having misfiring on multiple cylinders. Delaer Replaced Crank sensor still had bad codes, Checked intake runner flaps for proper acuation, OK, Removed intake, cleaned pivots and reinstalled, car ran fine with no codes.

At 37.8K lost low and midrange power again. Dealer replaced plugs, plug wires and Engine Control Module. Car ran fine with no codes.

Now I have lost power again and dealer is scratching their heads wondering what to do. Told me they would research and get back to me. Just wondering if any other W210 owners may have any other ideas as to WTF is going on!

So far I am out close to $3K with no solution!

Let me know if ya got any ideas!

BTW I live in Atlanta and have taken the car to Atl Classic Cars and MB of South ATL.

2000 Silver E55
I am also very curious to know what this is. Before I purchased my 2000 E55, I test drove another one that I almost bought but didn't because of high mileage. The thing is that for some strange reason that car that I test drove felt like it had a little more low-end and mid-range power. The W210 that I bought had the CEL come on about 3 weeks ago and when I got the codes read it was the MAF, I replaced it and the car runs much better, but I still feel like it is missing a little bit of torque. I am wondering if its just me or maybe the car really isn't running 100%

You may have another bad MAF. The MAF's on the 210 E55 are garbage.

Yep, mine is also still good since new.... *knock knock* 65K miles now.

I do hear lots of W210 has MAF issue....

I once tempted to buy another '01 E55 w/ 175K miles (wow!!!!) but w/ no records of MAF problems.... if you ask why, it would've been my project car and it was very cheap... $15K (before haggling and it was more than 1 year ago) flawless ext & int.... just high mileage. Owner claimed to use it as daily driver from Monterey to Sacramento for almost the life of the car.

I'd go for the MAF again and look at the intake tract for dirt and debris which might be gumming up the works. K&N filters by chance? The MAF in these cars are very sensative and prone to failure as most of us already know. Sometimes they don't trigger CEL.

MAF sensor

At 36k having the MAF replaced is common and it fixed your problem for awhile. Not to second guess your dealer but if the MAF fixed the problem the first time maybe they should replace the MAF again as I have heard that many of them are bad right out of the box?

I changed my MAF at 50k for the first time just as a preventative measure. From the folks I know that have 210 55's (four people) we all have very reliable cars with no problems other then the window regulators and MAF.

I am sorry you are throwing alot of money and not getting results. Could you have gotten some bad fuel, plugged fuel filter, dirty fuel injector, maybe 02 sensors gone bad? These parts sound like potential culprits that will not cost big $ to replace, I bet it is something simple they have so far overlooked.

Thanks for the feedback

I guess I am going to have to revisit the MAF issue. The car does have stock air filters so that is not an issue. I have been waiting a week for the "guru" at Classic to come up with something during his research. So far the phone has not rung! I doubt they will warranty the MAF I had installed @ 36K as I have not had any CEL and nothing really specifically points to it. The car is running like crap, I got roasted by a CAMRY today (til I got about 4K on the tach than BAM).... ARRGH

A CAMRY? Damn! Go get that thing fixed!

MB warrants their repairs for at least 12mos/12,000 miles, no?

Time to temporarily change your badge... E55 to E300.... AMG to DIESEL

I think if you replaced your MAF less than 1 year ago, you should be covered by warranty....

Good luck!
