Question Quoted HP for W210

This topic may have been covered many times but I couldn't locate a thread... Anyway, does anyone know why some poeple list their 210 E55's stock HP @ 349 and others list it as 355? The same question for the two different torque numbers. I checked my manual and it states 355 HP and 390 Ftlbs - I thought previously my car was going to be 349hp & 391lbs. Is there a reason for this? Thanks in advance.

different years?

My guess is that the lower number is for the first couple of years E55s. Then perhaps they made a few changes and got a slight increase in HP.

Mine is a first year so I remember it with the lower numbers you provided.

Correct. The 349 HP number was for '98-'99 years, 2000-'02 was rated at 355 HP although I've never been able to determine exactly what the difference was/is.

Actually it is my understanding that the 2001 is 349 hp also. I think 354 hp changed in 2002. I have a 2001 and I can't tell you how hard I want to find somewhere that states I have 354 hp. 5 FREE hp is what I want!

i haven't seen specs in awhile but this is what i think
all years 349hp for US, 354hp Euro spec
and to throw something out there, the 99 e55 is faster off the line due to different gearing?

Why does the 99 E55 have different gearing? I never heard that one before! We are talking about 98 to 2002 W210 E55's compared to each other correct?

I think the difference in hp #'s are due to the mid 2k1 car and the 2k2 car having higher compression than the 98 to early 2k1 E55's.(10.5:1 vs 11.0:1).

Bottom line is that you are not really gonna notice or feel a difference. When you dyno every yr W210 E55 the #'s vary with some newer and some older models putting out the same whp #'s on the dyno.

I will say that lately though I have noticed the newer cars putting out close to 300whp and a lil above.

99-2001 = 349HP, 2002 = 354 HP. 200 changes were made from 1999 to 2000 model, so much so that really the 99's are more like the E50s than the latter E55s.

Only differences are cosmetics and triptronic module added to tranny in later cars.Any of the 98-99 cars can be fitted with this module as a matter of fact.

Not to mention, higher compression pistons. Perhaps a few other minor things added here and there like the differences between the 98 ,99 and 2000 C43. The differences are nothing major otherwise. Not really too many big differences mechanically between a 98-99 E55 and the 2k to 2k2 E55's.

The obvious can be said about the E50 vs the E55 all yrs.

it really doesn't matter, a diff of 6hp?
i dyno'd mine, made 300 even rwhp and ~333rwtq. only mod i have is i removed the resonator and installed an x-pipe. ootherwise stock. also, i did not have any blowing fans on the intake...im sure that would be good for a few more hp.

its also an un-spoken thing that that the 02's tend to dyno in at ~300 rwhp in bonestock form, where the 99-01's dyno ~270-290rwhp. so u have an 02', i would be safe to say, ur sitting pretty at 300rwhp... get a dyno done, and u'll see...

Wow anything under 285whp spells possible defective MAF. I've dynoed my car with a defective Maf and got #'s all below 280whp.

Since changing it never got a # below 289whp.

I found my extra 6hp and 1 less ft-lb just by opening my owners manual in US SAE and not Euro DIN:
