Transmission stuck in park, service engine light on...

I just bought this car a week ago and the Check Engine light is on. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and he ran the code as something like "fuel 2nd bank issue". His mechanic said that was an O2 sensor code.

Today, my wife drove it to her mother's house. I guess she parked and went inside, and then they left a little while later. She noticed the car revving extraordinarily high, like 4000 rpm at 40mph. She made it to the store and put it in park and turned the car off. She then restarted it, but it wouldn't shift out of park. I drove in to town to pick her up and still can't get it out of park, even by pressing down on the little button to manually unlock it.

1.) How do I get it out of park so I can get it home??
2.) Was it in "limp home mode" before it locked in park?? What would cause that?
3.) How much is a hood ornament? 'Cause I KNOW it will get ripped off tonight if I can't get it home...

Thanks!

I should probably mention that it is a 2001 E55 with 85K miles; no warranty from MB.

Roadside Assistance does not require warranty as far as I remember.

OK, I got it out of park but it is still in "limp home mode".

The engine seems to RUN fine and everything seems OK, so can I assume this is just an emissions issue such as an O2 sensor?

...........as I understand it, the o2 sensor is only useful for clean air regulation issues. So I doubt that the problem with your car solely the o2 sensor, because your car should still drive normally with a bad o2 sensor.
