e55 W210 long-term question
I have always loved the W210 E55's, but the bug is serious now. My question is, how durable are the engines long-term? I have seen many that have 50,000 plus miles. I would like to buy and put 10,000 miles a year on it for the next 10 years. Are these bulletproof (very objective term) if taken care of, for 125,000 miles or so?
I am a long-term owner when it comes to cars, but I take great care of them as well.
Any long-term owners?
Thanks in advance.

A well maintained W210 E55 should have no trouble getting 100K plus out of the motor. You would be much more likely repairing or replacing the trans before anything goes south in the motor since MB claims they are "sealed for life". Any automatic can, and will, benefit from fluid and filter changes. Unfortunately, waiting until 50-75K before it's first service can be just as bad as not touching it.

I am considering selling my 2002 E55. It has about 36K miles and has Mercedes extended warranty until October 2007. I am the first original owner and the car was bought at Mercedes Bezn of Buffalo. The car is in excellent condition. And the best of all I live in Fredonia NY 30 miles south of Orchard Park. The detail of the car is listed in my signature. Let me know if you are interested.

wow - two offers of clean ones...lucky you.
i've had mine for 9 days now and loving every moment.
it's got 87k miles on it for 2001 and w/ full svc records.
although i considered other models (including w211, S class or the CL's), i'm very pleased w/ my decision.
in the past 5 yrs, the dealer has:
fixed parktronics 2x
replaced dash (bad pixels) at 80k
replaced the ignition wires along w/ new spark plugs (about $1500)
new brakes/rotors, front and rear
mass air flow (MAF)
battery
the mb svc advisors say engine and transmission are pretty bullet proof and that the two other major items are: front bushing (cheap parts but very expensive labor), and also engine mounts (about $500 installed).
