I found this photo on the same site. It was listed as a photo of a "AMG S55 Medical Safety car". No way is that car a S55. That is not a W220. Looks more like a hood from a W140.

It might even be a C43. They used those, as well as E55 wagons, as the F1 Medical Cars. It's certainly not the current S55. Never heard of a W140 S55, unless it was an AMG special.

That grill is really wide for a C43 and the C43 does not have all those horizontal chrome strips. Just an observation.

Actually, many C43s do have the multi horizontal grill chrome strips in euro form:

the web page indicates that the s55 had been in an accident...that would account for the odd look.

dr dave, take a closer look at that grill and the horizontal hood line to the right of the grill. The W220 grille has fewer horizontal chrome strips also - only 4. Regardless of accident that is not a W220.

Last time I checked, F1 was using a C32 Estate as the medical car. The door was ripped off after someone (forgot, John knows) avoided the accident and straightlined the chicane.

We are talking about two different accidents here...the first was at Monaco in June of 2000 and involved the W202 C43 Estate Medical Car in use at that time and is the car shown in the photo from the AMG factory...those photos have been around for two years.

The second accident happened this season at Interlagos, the Grand Prix of Brazil and involved the current W203 C32 Estate when Nick Heidfeld's Sauber took to the grass between the just parked MC and the guard rail after avoiding Bernoldi's Arrows which had spun in the Senna "S" and bounced of the tire wall back into the middle of the track...he smashed the just opening drivers door on the MC...luckily no one was hurt.

That car is the C43 wagon that crashed in Monaco.

It was me who took those pictures at AMG on the guided tour. Higher res images can be found at http://www.maffs.org under 'media gallery'. This is where those 'stolen' pictures came from.
