do stock rear wheels & tires fit up front?

i'm thinking about buying another set of OEM 18" rims and run 4 rear rims with summer tires and 4 front rims with snow tires. will this work? i'm sure the 4 fronts will work fine with 245/40/18 snow tires all around, but can i run 275/35/18 tires front & rear?

Leave your E55 put away in winter. I was just in Denver and the stuff they put down on the roads for snow is not the best thing for the paint or under carriage on our MBs. Drive the Honda in winter and leave the E55 for summer. But what do I know living in Miami; I only have to deal with the rain?

That would be a cool set-up running rears in the front.

I also have a 2001 E55, and I just bought another set of Monoblocks from another E55 owner. I understand what you want to do, but I just use one set of wheels for summer and one for winter. For winter, I use a set of Dunlop WinterSport M3's of the same size (245's) all the way around, even on the 275 rear wheels. For summer, I run Dunlops in staggered sizes.

I live in Connecticut, so winters aren't as snowy as where you are. I think the E55 handles the inclement weather quite well when equipped with proper snow tires. Sorry that I can't answer your question, but I thought I'd give you a little feedback on my experiences.

hey THomas, thanks for the info. so the 245 tires fit OK on the rear wheels? that's good to know. I'm guessing you don't rotate them then..

Correct. They fit fine, and I don't rotate them. I can't tell you how they wear, because this is my first year with the car and the snow tires. Perhaps, it would've made sense to buy the same size wheels and snow tires, but I'm one of the minority here in this group who likes the look of the stock AMG wheels on my E55, and I knew there wouldn't be any issues with offset and other frustrations.

Good luck with your decision.

thanks. i wish tirerack carries ASA ST2 replica wheels for E55. These are the AMG monoblock replicas in 18x8, and ASA makes good rims. those couldve been perfect for winter setup.. i'll just wait until OEM wheels with snow tires pop up on ebay.

Nothing wider than a 8.5" rim and 245 will fit up front.
