I have the same problem.
Two questions:
1) on a scale of 1-5 (1 being changing wiper blades and 5 being changing the transmission) how would you rated the difficulty of switching the seat frame?
2) If you had to guess, how much would you expect the seat frame to cost?
Thanks,
Carleton

i'll have to double check sometime down the road.
it's not a priority that's for sure, but when you focus on it, it's a little annoying even if it's just a click or one mm movement

I took of the seat mounting by taking four star bolts that holds the seat to the car floor. Traced the noise to the metal to metal contact on the front right corner of the seat. I can clearly see the existing "play" (in the front part of the seat height adjustment mechanism) is causing metal to metal contact that I simply eliminated by simply inserting a couple of washers in between the two corresponding parts (hence eliminating the metal to metal contact by making them farther apart).
The reason that when you fully lowered the seat the noise is gone is because at that position you eliminated the "play" between the two metals
My E55 seat is now quiet!!!!!!!

Try to really see the source of the noise by having somebody rock the seat forward and backward while you observe the seat mechanism. In my case it was metal to metal contact on the front right part of the seat.
If my car is in warranty then I would let the dealer replace the frame. Out of warranty, then it is simply too expensive. Plus it might happen again to the new frame with time.
Hard to explain here in writing but if you are just even slightly mechanically inclined then you should be able to see the cause and find a solution to the clicking noise. In my case I just added metal washer to distance the two metal parts to prevent them from contacting each other.
Anyway where are you located, I am in SoCal/OC if I can be of further help.

If you look under the driver seat, loot toward the front right corner of the seat and look at the height adjustment mechanism. It is basically a rod that has a swivel at the end of it (to adjust the ehight of the fron of the seat). On the right end of the rod, I noticed on my car black paint (on the metal railing)that is no more due to the metal to metal contact with the end of the swivel rod. Notice that the right end of the rod is being held down by two bolts. I simply unscrew the bolts and slide a pair metal washer to lift the swivel rod so as to distance itself from the metal railing below it.
HTH,
i'll give it a shot one of these days, just haven't driven much lately
