Why does US E55 have wider Rubber?
Just about every W210 E55 except the US come from the factory with 235/40/18 front and 265/35/18 OEM sizes. on 18X8 front and 18X9 rear rims.
Any speculation to why the US and Canada versions come with 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 tires?
The specs for the new W211 E55 in most other countries also list the 235 & 265 widths.
More rubber for bigger US *****.

I changed my tyres from 235/40 and 265/35 to 245 and 275 width respectively and immediately had rubbing problems. The guard had to be pulled out where the top of the front bumper/apron meets the wheelarch as the tyres rubbed at the front. I was a little surprised as this is as you have pointed out a standard fitment on US spec cars.

Can't imagine why they upped the size but glad they did.
