high speed vibration and brake smell

This is a weird problem I encountered today. Maybe someone can help me. Going about 80mph on the freeway and I start to feel a vibration. It feels like almost a flat tire. So I pull over and no flats. But, I do smell asbestos; like from the brakes or clutch coming primarly from the rear brakes. I know I don't have a clutch so it has to be the brakes. However; cruising at 80mph and I wasn't even applying the brakes. The brakes are not too old. And I did change pads and rotors. Its almost like the brakes could be being applied as I am driving. Except it's not me.

Please somebody tell me I am not and there is a logical explanation

I bet you had a parking brake spring come apart.

I had the same problem with the parking brake not disenaged all the way. When I stop and got out of the car I can smell my brake. No steering wheel virbration thought.

Dash Brake light not lite so i didn't know the parking brake was still on, not fully engage but enough to burn the pad. Once i pulled the parking brake i can hear it fully disengaged.

I will check that out! Thanks. But, I hardly ever use my parking brake. Could it be electronic, like maybe something with the abs or traction control?

On my other Mercedes my rear caliper locked in forward motion and would not return. To find which side you need to remove both rear tires and look at pads of both sides. (Look for the lower life pad)

To fix this are two ways:

1, take off caliper and replace or rebuilt it.

2, take a 2 C-clamps and push brake pistons back in, place caliper back on rotor and apply brake, then take it off and compress pistons again, put everything back together and drive car applying brakes check a few days later to see if problem is fixed if not replace caliper with new unit.

Good luck
