The normal 210's are from 97-99 then 00-02 right?
If there is that slight break in the stlye with the 00 ups having sublte improvements here and there does the same apply to the AMG modes?

W210 E55 came out in 99 only and then got the facelift in 2000 which carried until 2002 before the W211. There are quite a few changes between the 99 and the 00-02 models. The link Peter posted has some pretty good info!

 

First E55 was a 98' and was in Europe first and only. We did not start getting them till 99' for the 99' model yr first time in the US.

 

You're absolutely right. The Euro's also got the E50 that we didn't see either...

 

The E50 was only produced 2 years 1996 and 1997 even though all were considered model year 1997.
The W210 E55 was only produced 5 years 1998 through 2002 with a facelift in 2000.

 

Rumour has it that the strongest engines were put in MY2001 model.

With silver being the fastest.

W210 started production in 1995. For US it was sold as 1996 to 2002 model years.

And the AMG W210's started from 96 to 2002 with the US receiving the first W210 AMG in 1999.

 

After the '99 model year the car gained quite a bit of extra pounds with the upgraded electronics, etc. So most of the fastest W210's (pre-2003) are 99's (check dragtimes) at least stock.

I know the '00 has a manual open/close sunroof, '01 has auto open and manual close, finally '02 has auto open/close. I'm not sure why it took two years for MB to figure that one out...

Nope, the MY00-02 has the smoke signal top and much nicer IMO than the 99. You can find them on ebay but I would make sure that are OEM. To fit the ones on the trunk if they're OEM, you must shave the inner part of the back of the housing to make them sit flush. If you pick up a set just let me know and I can shave them down for you...
