Service A

I'm gonna go ahead and do it myself, but I needed to now a couple things.

1) What's the dust filter? How hard is it to change, where is it, and where can I buy it?

2) Do I have to get the dealership to reset the counter, or can I do it?

About the oil, I'm gonna try Royal Purple. What weight do I need?

Thanks

omg NEWB!

you should know this stuff by now, you didn't join yesterday

dust filter, i think you mean cabin filter (charcoal filter) it's under your glovebox, pretty easy to do it yourself
here's directions
http://www.hastingsfilter.com/products/af1150.pdf

reset the counter
1. have the key in the on position (not ac position)
2. get to the "A/B Service due in xxxxx miles" display
3. hold reset button for @3-4 seconds
4. the screen will ask "confirm reset press reset button for 3 seconds"
5. next message will say A/B Service due in 13000 miles

parts buy 100% oem from mileoneparts, or close to oem and cheaper from autohausaz.com

No, I shouldn't know this stuff since it's the first time. I don't have time to wait around for a good time to bring it to someone. So I'm doing it. Yea it will be my first time, doesn't mean I don't know what I'm doing. Hey...it says dust filter on mbusa, so take that up with them.

Well, assuming most W210's are alike, you have two filter sets. One is the dust filter which filters all the air entering the cabin. They are located behind the glove box which you must remove to access the chamber holding the filters. 4-6 screws hold glove box in (Two on top front above rubber bumpers, two on bottom front under small rubber/plastic caps and two (maybe) on either side of light). Top lip tends to catch so you may have to slip something thin in and pry down a little. Carbon filters are under dash (passenger side). They only kick in when the switch on the dash is pushed or if the outside air is really nasty so they last alot longer. Remove cover under dash to access chamber. On dust filter only one filter shows so remove it and slide second filter over to remove. Note orientation on old filters and put new ones in same way. Both easy jobs. Good DIY writeups on MB sites with pictures. Have fun.

I watched my friend (MB mechanic) replace my cabin filters and he really had to give the glove box a good tug in order to get it out.

how did you make out with performing your first service on your own benz? what did you use to siphon out the oil?

I haven't done the cabin filters yet, but will later. Everything was a piece of cake. I just took off the drain plug to drain it.

I do have one question for whoever can tell me, but I put in 8qts like the manual says. It looks like it's still a half qt low. Is this normal?

My friend who is a MB mechanic says our engines take 8.2 quarts so you might want to add half a quart or .2

Well, it says it's low, so I guess I'll add the needed oil.

Which cabin filter do I need to get in this link?

Thanks. I'm gonna order from them. I ordered my oil filter from them, and two business days later it was at my house.

I can't believe how great the car feel right now. I put in royal purple from Mobil 1. I also cleaned the filters. Wow, guess it's all it needed.

I have K&N filters, and I shook them out. They were filthy. I don't have a solution to clean them at the moment. I would definatly give it a shot.
