Need opinions on 2002 E55 54k miles
Thinking about pulling the trigger on a loaded E55 2002 54k miles. asking price 21K. My problem is I usually switch cars once or twice a year to keep the women guessing. Do you think it will loose much value in the next year or so. I would like to not loose my *** at least once. Car is in excellent condition and very well maintaned. I have seen some on ebay for more $ but unsure if they sell for more $. Have these models hit the bottom yet?
Thanks in advance

Looks like a good price
long as you're sure of the vehicle history and confident of the condition - mine is 2002 with 48K and I've been watching the trade-in values...21K has seemed stable IMHO for the last 6 months....

I know I'm reviving an old thread, but does anyone have an idea what similar low mileage 2002's (50k to 60k miles loaded without parktronic) are going for today? Curious to see if prices have fallen much past the 21k price mark that Mike was talking about a year ago.
I'd imagine with this economy, prices have fallen dramatically.

Honestly thats too much, You can get 02 CLK w/ 50k miles for $18k now. Also W211 E55 AMGs (04-05) are as low as $26k BIN on ebay so really 21 seems like alot for that car. Just giving some honest advice, grind the price down significantly or move on.

If the economy hasn't gone down so badly I would buy a 07 E63 or that new 09 GTR Prem that the dealer is discounting $2500 off MSRP!

yes but W210 E55 market has not budged in the last 12 months really, Prices were still the same when I had mine, so honestly its irrelevant. W210 E55s are one of the cars that barely took a hit in all this (compared to the CLK55s which have been slaughtered). it is probably the only AMG that has held up relatively well in the past year where as others have fallen off a cliff.
Either way my point is still valid, newer AMGs are getting way too cheap to ignore so unless you are getting a steal on the w210 it is tough to resist getting the newer models.

I've got to disagree a little on the W210 E55 prices. They're even lower than the CLK55 prices, even though the E55 I assume retailed for $10 or $20 grand more. Meaning, the E55 prices really seem to have fallen. You can find a W210 E55 for about half the price of a comparable M5.
I bought a W210 for two main reasons:
The W210 looks more reliable than the W211, meaning it's cheaper to maintain in addition to cheaper to buy. Specifically I'm referring to the air suspension, IC pump, etc. that the W210 doesn't have.
The W211 is cheap for a super car. As in, for less than the cost of a new base model BMW or a pretty basic SUV, you can get an amazing car. But the W210 is amazingly cheap. Dirt cheap. For the same price as a used Honda Accord, you can have an amazing car. If you really want max performance, the W211 is obviously a great value. But the W210 is just plain dirt cheap. I like that while I have to think about buying a W211, the W210 is basically cheap enough to buy on impulse.
However, you bring up a good point. If you're looking for a little more power, or have the extra cash or credit, the W211 is a steal and offers a lot of benefits over the W210.

My argument is why buy all these big HP cars and there's no blinking place to drive them.

I wanted to add one more comment, after thinking about this some more. I think this is what AMS was getting at.
Basically, why buy a W210 E55 for $18k? There are W210's selling for $10-$13k. I think this is reasonable. I was looking at getting a CLK55, C32, or E55. Of these, the E55 is often the cheapest. It's also more reliable at high mileage than the C32 (no supercharger issues). And ultimately, while not handling as well, is a slightly more luxurious car than the CLK55. So in the $10k to $13k range, it's a great buy.
Of the E55's listed at $18 or more (and I've seen a good number), you'll notice these aren't selling. The car really isn't worth that much, in the opinion of most. Once you're already at the $20k mark, you might as well cough up a few more and get a W211.
There is a big disparity on prices right now. I think a lot of people are either stuck in loans and slammed by the fact the W210 is realistically not going to sell for much over $15k, or else simply can't believe or haven't checked sales values recently and don't understand that they won't be able to move the car at a higher price point. Basically, this means there are deals out there and also advertisements that will sit unanswered. So long as you buy the former, I think a W210 is worth it. If you're looking at the latter, the W211 is a more sensible upgrade.

That's a fair deal, xlr8tin, especially once you factor in a trade-in. I think this shows that the market is definitely around $15k or less for these lower mileage E55's.
