Considering Buying '01 E55 w/ Kleeman ECU Upgrade--Should I Worry About "Upgrade"?
Hey all,
I'm thinking about giving up the old 420SEL and buying an E55. I know of an '01 with about 60k, owner says it has a "Kleeman ECU Upgrade". I understand the basic idea behind this upgrade, but should I expect this to cause any reliability or other problems in the future? I've never modded any of my cars, so it worries me a bit. Thoughts?
Thanks.

I have heard this does absolutely nothing for power. It raises the top speed to 186 mph or 174 or something you will probably never hit anyway. I hope you aren't paying extra for this "mod". Does he have any proof that this was even done? I hate to be the pessimist, but its easy to say it has an ecu upgrade.... you cant see anything and if you drive it, of course its fast its an AMG E55.
Keep your SEL, I regret giving away my SEC. If you can't though the E55 is the best all around Mercedes and you wont be sorry. (My opinion)

It'd be a great idea to make sure that the owner of the vehicle has some proof it has Kleemann software.
