Suspension Question

Hey Guys, so I'm the original owner of my 2000 W210 and I have almost 120k miles on it. It seems to be riding more "boaty" than it did when it was newer. I just put new Michilen PS2 tires all the way around and that helped a little. My common sense tells me though that I'm probably due for new shocks as a minimum. I really don't want to invest a bunch of money (almost 9-year old car now) or go overboard here, so I'm looking for a suggestion as to what the best bang for the buck move is. Will I get a substantial improvement by just replacing the shocks with new OEM ones? What kind of money am I looking at to put on a new set of 4 shocks? Is there one clear bang-for-the-buck shock make or model to go with? I assume it's probably a DIY installation. Is there anything I need to be aware of to install new shocks on this particular car?

I know, lots of questions. Any suggestions you can offer are appreciated. Thanks.

Can anyone tell me where I can find the stock AMG shocks for the car? Are they only at steeler? Are the fronts the same as the rears? Part numbers of course would be very welcomed. Would I need any type of special tools or installation kit? Roughly what do they cost?

Thanks A Lot

Some people say that they are in fact the Bilstein HD version just branded differently , some ( including the Stealer ) say that they re not, they are only made by Bilstein for MB and only available from them. I have never seen the OEM available anywhere else, you can only imagine what the price is at the dealer. I think buying the Bilstein HD or the Sport elsewhere will always be cheaper.

Before I get too far down this path, has anybody got any info on what the expected life of the original shocks are? Has anyone replaced theirs with new OEM shocks and noticed a significant improvement in ride? Again, I've got almost 120k miles and I'm thinking that they're probably due.

Thanks Again

I would say I am really surprised they lasted 120K miles! 70K is what I would expect from any shocks performing at their best.

Go Bilstein for most dramatic change. Much firmer and less $$ than dealer OEM. I have also heard they make the AMG OEM. Front and rears are different. Fairly easy DIY. Check forum post for instructions.
