help - 97 e320 engine shaking + running rough
My 1997 E320 engine is starting to shake or shudder significantly at low speeds and the car is
running incredibly rough, since 3-4 days. The car has had a CEL "camshaft position sensor" error code
for over a month now, without any problem.
Funny thing is that my other car, (british car, 2000) also started shuddering at slow
speeds and at idle every 10 seconds or so, At idle the other car sunds like:
purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrGASPpurrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrGASPpurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrr
Both cars started seeing the problem at the same time. They were filled at the same gas station.
The weather turned from 90s to 50s at the same time. The E320 is definitely worse engine
shake and rough running.
Any thoughts? Thanks

I notice that a small (breather/inlet?) tube connected to Air shutoff valve
is almost fully cracked. Does anyone know if this could be problem ? I have attached pics of the cracked tube.
Also, I am in the process of changing the spark plugs, maybe this will
fix the problem.

You got it exactly right !!!
One of the cylinders was not firing. Changed the spark plugs and spark plug wires. The root cause was a bad ignition coil. Changed this and the problem was fixed. Thank YOU.
