Vent Question

Okay folks, took a chance and picked up the 2001 E55 I've been looking at for the past month.
First question, the center vents aren't blowing. Any suggestions on how to get them to work?
Thanks!

Dude welcome to the club! E55 is such an amazing car! Try turning the temp way down low (and A/C on?) and see if it blows then. M-Bs in my experience don't blow heat out of the center vents (but will blow cold air through them). My '85 380SL doesn't do it and my '02 E55 doesn't do it. Weird.

I'm not using it in heat mode. I'm only running A/C.
But I did notice that the defrost vents are blowing cold air.
Is it possible for the vents to be stuck?

Spent more time with the E55 this weekend.
For what it's worth, I have no control over the venting no matter what the control panel shows.
Hope this helps with diagnosis a little more.
Thanks!

Hey, thanks!
Very helpful link.
I used it and found that I've got a coolant circulation problem and may be low on refrigerant.
Still no answer to my vent problem, though.

Hello friend!! how are you. Ok some months ago i have the same problem with my car! maybe you think i'm crazy but the answer for my car was a little crazy yes, hahaha but here we go: the problem in my car was the doors lock central pump (down the rear pass seat). Inside the pump one little black vacum control the heater system (start or stop a micro switch), in my case the little vacum are damage & the vaccum negative pressure in the system dies! you can check down the right front fender have the vaccum acumulator & them have 2 plastic hoses one green (goes to the AC system) & one gray (go to the engine intake) you can apply suction in the gray plastic hose & pay attention if the accumulator manteine the negative pressure or not! if the answer is not, you have a lost pressure in the system.. in my case the little vaccum in the central pump let scape the negative pressure & my center vents close because the open/close vaccums not have pressure to open the vents! if some crazy that the rear central locking control the a/c pressure vents too but... Mercedes-benz thinks are a good idea

I hope help you this info..

PS: Your coolant circulation problem sure is your recirculation/heater water pump (little electric in the right fender near the exhaust manifold)... in my car dies too hahaha you can put ur A/C in HI temp & if the electric pump dosn't star try to strike them with a big steel HAMMER.. hahahahaha just kidding, try some little strikes with a little hammer & they can start again..

Haven't disassembled anything yet but when I'm in the car, engine running but nothing else on, I can hear a soft periodic hissing sound that starts and stops.
Could this be the vacuum pump and it's leaking?

One of two things, if you have the AC on , your low on Refrigerant, if not then it is the air pump for the ergonomic seats, but that should go away after few minutes, if not , then one of the lines is leaking, test the air pumps in teh seats first.

Forgot to mention that it's seems like the sound is coming from the rear passenger side seat area.

rennworks i had the same problem on my noise in the back seat coming from the pump. It was the passenger side lumbar had a leak, which made the pump run continuesly.

Thanks but I'm bummed! Thought it'd have something to do with the venting.
How did you identify the leak?
