Comand unit

The FM and especially the AM reception on my 2000 E55 with the Comand unit, which combines the navi and radio, is nearly non existent unless the car is almost next door to a radio tower. I know that many of you W210 owners know this. My question is to those of you who have remedied this problem. What did you do? If you made modifications to the OEM comand unit, what exactly was done to improve reception? If you removed the Comand unit what did you replace it with and just as important what retro fitting was done to the dash space where the unit was installed. Pictures would certainly help those of us with the problem. Thanks.

I would check or replace the antenna amp located behind the rear left side qt panel cover first. Lots of time the amp would go bad.

Thanks gentlemen. I did that. The dealer installed new amp and even replaced the wiring unit which resulted in a slight improvement.

Any other ideas or mods?

My guess, with the dearth of responses, most of us W210 E55 owners just live with the poor audio reception. I'll start visiting independent audio shops for a fix. Thanks.
