Lowered the E55
So, after countless reads, and re-reads of other threads on lowering springs (H&R), and the fact that Eibach and Vogtland do not make springs for our cars...I decided to cut mine to lower the car to where I wanted it. 1 inch was my goal, and I achieved it within 1/8 of an inch variance.
I removed the original springs, used a dremel cutting wheel and took off 6 inches of coil on the front, and 5 inches of coil on the rears. I wanted to make sure there was a slight rake when I was done.
So, see the pix! I am very happy with the outcome. Only 4 hours to do the job in my home garage and saved $250 on aftermarket springs.
Ride is great, no real difference than before.

Thanks guys. I used a ZDMAK spring compressor that I bought off a board member. It was really easy on the front, the rears were a bit harder since the rear control arms have plastic covers that need to be removed, and you also need to take out the control arm pivot bolt and drop the control arm. Still, the job was straightforward. If you are thinking of doing this job, go for it!
As far as the wheels are concerned, they are Sport Editions, bought from Tirerack. These are my winter wheels (18x8) with Pirelli winter tires. They make a staggered 19 inch set (19x8 and 19x9.5) that I am thinking of getting.

The car looks great man. I think the rake makes it look more intimidating. You planning on any other exterior work now that you've lowered her?
