BEST performace exhaust set up??
Check out ABALONE's with Kleemann headers (for now anyway) and assess
your pocketbook.

I have no pics, but it's a custom made one with double 2,5", 2 race cats and 2 full flow mufflers, one smaller and then the end muffler with two 3" chrome pipes. As for headers I have the Kleemann headers+downpipe, car runs really great!
Majority of the power comes from upgrading the high flow 2nd cats and upgrading stock headers.
Whether you go Long tube headers & delete primaries, or get high flow bolt-on short tube headers + high flow 2nd cats it doesn't really matter. Both setups make almost the same power but the key is getting headers and upgrading/removing one set of cats.
I recommend keeping the OEM E55 catback, it really is one of the best OEM rear mufflers I've ever seen (or heard). If you want more power & sound while still keeping it refined keep the stock rear muffler & get header, 2nd cats, & x-pipe. That is the ideal setup.
One last option for those wanting a real sleeper (max power but most refined conservative sound), is keeping the stock resonator & rear muffler in place and removing the 2nd cats replacing it with an X-pipe (which moves the X-pipe up further in the exhaust system). This will also remove the restriction from the 2nd cats completely and improve scavenging effects at high rpms even more. With this setup you would have to run high flow short bolt-on headers.
hope that helps.

I think I posted this in the identical thread on another forum. Stock muffler and piping is fine. Remove or swap to high flow cats, add better header, and add an X into the system for more power.
can one of you with the tech and science experience tell me if i cut off my exhaust pipes from the moment they form the combined CAT, then make the exhaust from each header free flowing with only a high-flow silencer into a straight pipe out to the back of the car (i am cutting the wheel well in the boot of the car to make room for the exhaust on the right side of the car (I drive a left hand drive E55)). Will this give me power or reduce the pressure from the exhaust so much it will impair the engine? I'm hoping to do this in the next month and would love to hear from anyone who has made the E55 into a dual exhaust setup if this helps or hinders
If you are going for looks I guess it doesn't really matter then. Just know that you are paying a lot of money to lose power (which is tough to accept for most people) in exchange for the quad tip look. It will also be significantly louder (maybe too loud). As long as you are ok with this then I guess nothing can stop you. Just remember going that route is irreversible, you cannot go back so make sure its what you want. In addition it will significantly effect the cars resale value since most people wanting to purchase a car don't want it to be hacked up, therefore you may not get a good price when it comes time to sell (if that is a factor for you). hope that helps.
