sunroof lining noise
Have any of you guys experienced rattling with your sunroof lining. Mine used to rattle a lot when I would slide it open. So I had the slider (or whatever its called) replaced at the dealer. It got better but it still rattles especially in bumpy parts of the highway. It drives me nuts and I would hate to have the dealer rip out the whole headliner to fix this. I guess that is the price you pay for having a stiff sporty suspension.
I wonder if the rest of the car is going to start rattling sooner than the average e320 would because of its stiff suspension. Maybe somebody with a higher mileage e55 could comment. I have about 35k on mine.

I had sunroof/headliner rattle issue in my 98 E430 and also my 02 E55. On the E430 the dealer added some padding but still a little rattling when the roof was fully open. The dealer just replaced my entire sunroof frame under warranty for E55 but I still have some rattling. The stiff suspesion is somewhat to blame but the roof should be flawless. Ask the dealer if there is a fix or technical servie bulletion (TSB) for the sunroof/headliner issues. And tell him that you have heard of other owners complaining about similar problems.

I had the same problem with '02 from brand new. The dealer knew exactly what the problem was, they had seen it on the regualar "E class" cars many times before, they dropped the headliner and added foam blocks, now its fine.

Sunroof lining rattle
Thanks for the reply guys. I will check with my dealer. I am still very hesitant to let them tear out the headliner.
Last year I had to have my whole dashboard replaced because it had already started to crack in some areas. I was seriously considering having it patch up to avoid having the dealer take the whole thing apart.
I wish they had built a bit more quality into the interior of this excellent car.

99E55, if your car is out of warranty maybe you can also try a shop that specializes in adding Sunroofs and redoing interiors. The price may be cheaper and they have sunroof specialist.

Sunshade rattle
I finally took my car in to have the sunshade rattle fixed. I found out that my extended warranty did not cover interior trim and my standard warranty had expired Feb. 28. Luckily I was able to talk my service advisor into fixing it under warranty, since I had mentioned the problem to them before.
The problem has improved. They dropped the headliner and installed some sort of lining. Now, when the sunshade is closed it does not rattle unless I hit a big bump. However, when I slide the sunshade all the way back it rattles just as loud as ever. I am taking it back next week.
Has anyone managed to completely get rid of the noise. It is very annoying.
