new member...question
I just bought a 99 E55 with 27k miles. I am wondering if the car is running correctly. I have read posts of stock E55's leaving rubber all through 1st gear. My car makes a chirp and that is about it. ESP is off. It also will not down shift when it should. Any help would be great.

I feel your pain.. my car does not downshift correct in certain situations. Especially when you are trying to show off you car with a passenger besides you.
Hmm.. I say if you just cruze around 30-45 miles per hour for at least 10 seconds and then gun it, then definitely your head will kick back and the car will downshift correctly (just make sure to slight depress the gas when it is about to shift up or else it will hit the rev limiter). But if you at 20-30 and gun it quickly it seems like the car stays in second gear and builds up speed. This is true at higher speeds too.

What tires you running in back? Maybe the tires are sticky and giving you all forward motion, real traction and not spinning.

Forgot to mention.
I never successfully burned out by just flooring it off the line. It just goes, maybe it slips for a little but that's about it.
Only way I can get it to burn out is if I hold my brakes and press the gas to about 15000 RPM then release the brakes and floor it, I can burn rubber for awhile.

It sounds like my car is running fine. I am seriously looking at the Kleemann s/c for the car and just wanted to make sure the car was running correctly now. Thanks for your help

I've noticed that if the outside temp is around 70 F deg the grip is very good to the point of just a chirp, and when the temp is below 60 F deg the car just screams off the line and will burn tire nicely, at 50 F deg it will spin all first gear. I guess it most be the colder the floor is the less grip your tire have. If you want to burn tire in Cali I'd suggest power braking to 1000 RPM, floor it and release the brake after it starts peeling tires.
