e55 brake upgrade
hi all!
i am the proud owner of a 01 e55 amg
but am looking to upgrade the front brakes but yet keep the standard monoblocks!
It is more of a visual reason than performance one. ideally the aluminium look of a c32 or the likes.
So if anyone has any ideas id be extremely gratefull
Thanks

Here's an interesting article on the W210 E55:
http://www.fantasycars.com/sedans/HT..._amg_w210.html
It points out that the E55 has better braking performance than pure-bred sports cars, tying a Ferrari 550 Maranello for first place.
My point being, you're going to have a hard time improving the performance of the brakes. You can actually swap C32 brakes onto the E55, which some people have done (search the forum here and BenzWorld.org). The C32 brake pads are cheaper to replace but they will not perform as well, so this is basically a performance downgrade for cost reasons.
Your best bet, especially if you want to keep the monoblocks, is to paint the calipers. Going to C32 brakes seems like a lot of money to spend to try to save money, and to get worse performance on top. And a big brake kit is going to be pricey and, if it improves performance at all, would probably only be in terms of repeat stop performance during extreme track use.

I have CLK55 setup in front and SLK55 brakes out back with steel braided brake lines. I DEFINITLY dont think it was a downgrade. The front calipers are also lighter. But the fronts didnt clear mono's w/out 3mm spacer. You cant really see them with mono's anyway but they look very nice with my HRE's.

Say which CLK55 setup did you have up front? 03'~04' or the 6 pods from 05'~06'? Direct swap with stock mounting bracket on those years?
Interested in knowing Thx,

03-04 4piston. They bolted right up and are fairly inexspensive. I wish i would have gotten 6 piston but the price was right. Hope that helps.
