Are the E55 rotors thin?
Took my E55 to dealer for oil change, brake fluid flush and battery check. Service guy calls me back with $7,800 worth of work. Tells me that my OEM rotors are 1mm under spec and says the performance AMG rotors are thin. I have 38k miles on the car all using the OEM pads. I have never tracked the car so would the rotors really be that worn down? I do doubt it. Thanks.

for 7,800 trade your car in and get another E55, or 63 for that matter.
btw: that is way to much.

The AMG rotors are thin? Haha. Take your car and run. I can't believe these service writers get away with this stuff. Get the Evosport 2-piece rotors and you can just replace the disc when the time comes instead of the entire rotor and benefit from all the unsprung weight reduction. Plus you get to tell the dealer to take a hike!

I think I found your problem:
I think the following rough estimates are fair (on the high side) prices:
Oil change $200
Brake flush $200
Rotors/pads $2,000
If they're charging more than that, time to find a new mechanic. I would definitely get a second opinion on your pads and rotors.

Which dealership is this? ASC? Tysons?
Take it to an independent. I like MARS Automotive in Manassas. (http://www.marsautogroup.com/). Give them an email asking for quotes. Tell them Donny (silver E55/E350) sent you. They took good care of my E55 the last time I went there and have very high standards. They're quite finicky about using subpar aftermarket parts though so if you're bringing them parts you bought online, they better be of OEM quality.

What's up buddy?! How you been?
Who's your service guy? Tell him we'll give him $7,800 worth of injuries if he doesn't stop with the BS!

E55 front rotors are far from thin. Rears are about standard thickness (but those are cheap to replace). I HIGHLY doubt you've burned through a set of OEM rotors in 38k miles.
Assuming you don't have a micrometer..easy way to check if you're disc width spec is over due is to run your finger across the surface (after rotors have cooled down from driving) If you feel a lip as you get to the outer edge, then you'll need rotors some time soon.
Any shop should charge 2.5 hours labor to replace all 4 rotors/pads.

Hey JAM, I am good. Hope all is well. This guy was not my regular service guy - he called in sick - so he must have been trying to get points for Ripoff Ticket Of The Month club or something.

Who's your SA at ASC? Get in touch with Max Keya and see what he can do for you. I only trust him to handle my W211, he takes care of me.

The answer to your question is in your comments. You don't drive the car. Use it and you will find less things go wrong.
What other work did the SA suggest in the quote?
