Hi all. My DIY project for the weekend consisted of hard wiring a radar detector (Passport 9500i). It really cleans up the interior without having that coiled thing coming out of the cigarette lighter - and also gives the illusion of more room available.

Here's photos of the completed installation job using the Escort "Direct-Wire Smart Cord" that's available.

For power, I tapped into the cigarette lighter lead and grounded out using the same source. I knew it worked using that power connection - I didn't want to try tapping something else unknown, especially as it needed to be ignition switched.

So there it is!

That first pic is how it is now. That second coiled cord is the power for my phone. I haven't quite figured out how to conceal that one with panache because I need the 12V to USB converter... then I can run a USB cable to the phone.

How would you hard wire the SOS button? Mine no longer throws the malfunction cord but if I press the button, it's still talking to something in the car because it starts beeping loudly for a minute or two...
