Buy or convert to W210 E55 AMG
Hey,
I currently own an 1997 E 320. It is a nice car and handles well on twisty highways. But the 6 cylinder engine is killing me. It will pull well and run fine at 80 to 120 mph speeds but lacks the puretorque that an 8 cylinder (especially AMG upgraded), engine gives.
My questions are does anyone know of anyone that has taken an E320 to an E55 AMG. Or would it just be better to buy an AMG E55? If it is better to buy an E55 is there a favored year for the 210 bodystyle? And what prices are they selling for?

At this time, it is much easier and probably cheaper to just get a used W210 E55.
You'd need to change engine, transmission, ECU, wiring, suspension, brakes, wheels, interiors, and still end up with a E320 upgraded.

used E55's
i've heard you can get '99 E55's in the 30's, especially in larger cities like los angeles. i also was looking at kleemann's 2001 E320 that was supercharged and totally fixed up. although that car's sold, i thought that was a potentially nice substitute given that it's newer and also probably gets much better gas mileage.

not sure the exact #'s, but supposedly it was in european car dec 2001 issue. from what i recall on the spec, they seemed VERY CLOSE to the AMG 8 cylinder but w/ better gas mileage.
