99 E55 fluids recommendations
My father recent purchased a 99 E55. The car has about 170000kms on it. To be safe he wants to replace all the fluids and filters. I also want to know what other things should one check/replace?
Please recmmended the best fluids to replace. Cost not an issue.
I know the recomended engine oil is Mobil 1 0W-40.
What tranny fluid is required. (Brand and type)
What brake fluid is required. (Brand and type)
What coolant is required. (Brand and type)
What air and oil filters are required (Brand and type)
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Seriously? Didn't you know the 722.6 transmission in your car requires fluid meeting MB 236.14 specification. Basically, anthing not specifically made for this transmission is not compatible with it.
The 722.6 requires Mercedes OE fluid, or Shell or Fuchs aftermarket. In the 722.6 you can use Fuchs Titan 4134 or 3353 fluids. Shell uses the same numbers. The 3353 was orignally introduced for the 722.6; it is superceded by 4134 which is used in the 722.9 7-speed automatic transmission. Shell and Fuchs are the OEM suppliers to MB, so it is the same stuff.
Not sure what happens if you leave plain old Dexron IV in the transmission for an extended period of time.

I don't care what you do to your own car. Have at it.
To the original poster, Royal Purple does not meet the Mercedes specification for your transmission. I strongly suggest you do not use it. Doing so is basically a science experiment on your trans. Your transmission costs $4,000, give or take, to rebuild. Your choice.
